Cat Fox
Cat graduated from the lutherie program at the Minnesota Technical College, Red Wing MN, in 1982. She then apprenticed with William Cumpiano, the author of Guitarmaking: Tradition and Technology, building and repairing guitars in his shop for two years. She was hired as his repair technician following her apprenticeship and stayed for another four years. In 1989, Cat moved to Seattle and opened Sound Guitar Repair. She has repaired and restored a variety of fretted instruments ever since, serving an ever-expanding populace of happy musicians. Cat has done repair, maintenance, and set up work for the Everly Brothers, Bill Frisell, John Gorka, Danny O'Keefe, Annie Wilson of Heart, Cris Williamson, Del Rey, and many other players. In addition, she has taught at luthiers' symposia and conventions, has trained five apprentices, taught at the Crucible in San Francisco and at Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, done presentations for Seattle Luthiers Guild, and contributed to Guitarmaker, a professional journal for luthiers. Opening and teaching at Sound Guitar Workshop has been a goal of hers for many years.
